For German carnival 2024, Lyons Cub went as Blue from Rainbow Friends to his kindergarten party. He also has the Green costume from Rainbow Friends, but since that one has blood spatter on it, I didn’t let him wear it in kindergarten (he wasn’t even allowed to bring in his toy pistol from his robber Hotzenplotz Halloween costume last October, so I’m sure blood wouldn’t have worked, either). Therefore, he went as a “harmless little rainbow” with a crown — and a little slobber 😉
We took size 130 for a 6-year-old, which is sized up, and it was perfect since his ordinary clothes fit underneath (which is necessary on a cool February day). For a cheap costume under 20 bucks, I didn’t expect great things. Lyons Cub loved the bodysuit and the mask. Since it’s nylon, one has to be really careful not to pull a thread with long fingernails, Velcro, thorns, etc. We washed it in the washing machine at 30 degrees C after his first use, and it came out well, with no damage to the colors.
There were only three features I didn’t like about this costume: 1. In order to pee, my son has to have someone unzip the back to get out of the costume; 2. the gloves get dirty really quickly; 3. the eyes of the mask are spaced in a way so he can’t see very well. The Rainbow Friends Green costume does have a tiny zipper in the front!
However, since this costume is destined to be used for two days only (carnival and Halloween; next year, it won’t fit him anymore), we are very satisfied with it. His favorite is the Green costume from Rainbow Friends, though. That’s the one he wore for the Rheinland carnival parade in the city of Langenfeld, where we went to watch the floats and catch the candy they were throwing down.
And just in case Lyons Cub got cold, we also got a beautiful blue Rainbow Friends jacket:
He can wear those in kindergarten and on outings, too. Lyons Cub also has the Rainbow Friend Blue plushie (it’s one of the plushies he goes to bed with).
