Isn’t that every kid’s dream — a toy train with a real smoking volcano???
At first, I thought my son had made a mistake — he had set up the Playland toy train with a volcano and wooden dinosaurs with grandma when he came running to me, exclaiming disappointedly: “Mommy, the volcano doesn’t smoke!!!” I answered that of course, it would not smoke, as this was only painted on the box as an ad, thinking it wasn’t real.
What a pleasant surprise that it was real! The volcano really “smokes.” It takes three AA batteries to make volcano erupting sounds (this worked immediately, as soon as the train ran through, which is also battery driven). However, there came a small transparent pipette with the package, and it is to be used to fill up the upper part of the volcano with water. Thus, it’s a volcano with water vapor! Luckily, it’s cold vapor, because the kids put their heads and eyes over it, and this way, they cannot get burned. It’s worth while to read the instruction manual 😉
The train is yellow plastic and looks more like a tamping machine than a real train, but it has a magnet at the end, and you can attach other wooden wagons and trains you might have. Lyons Cub already owns a wooden railroad track with a water tower, different bridges, and several freight trains, oil wagons, and passenger trains, and he can integrate those in his new package and expand it. He also got a plastic rail track with LED cars about three years ago, but this cannot be compared to a real smoking volcano 😉
This track comes with wooden cacti, palm trees, dinos, two platforms/tunnels and a railway barrier. The tracks are compatible with lots of other standard wooden train sets. The package says it’s for ages 3+, and my almost six-year-old still has lots of fun with it.
The vapor looks nicest in the dark!!!
