Product Review: Kerplunk!

Lyons Cub has so many marbles now from his marble runs that I was thinking, how could I possibly spice that up a little? Fellow moms, did you play “Kerplunk” in your childhood? I certainly did. I found it intricating to insert the sticks into the tube, pour the marbles over them, and then carefully remove the sticks, taking turns with the family members, and the person who causes the fewest marbles to fall down wins. In the video below, Lyons Cub is setting up the game (he’s having a little freak out because grandma did not insert the sticks perfectly to his liking. Thank goodness, he has a very kind and patient Oma, who used to be a kindergarten teacher):

Alas, Lyons Cub thinks the person who ends up with the most marbles wins!! 😉 Either way, it’s fun to see his joy when the marbles fall, and he can practice his dexterity and fine motor skills trying to get the sticks through the holes on both sides of the tube. Even grandma found this quite challenging. Strictly speaking, you have to turn the tube around, so the opening at the bottom faces the tray of the player whose turn it is to pull a stick out. However, every time we tried to rotate the drum, more marbles fell out, so we just left it static. Had the same effect on kiddo — he just wanted to see the marbles fall!

Here, he’s overjoyed that he got most of the marbles to fall down; hence, he must have won:
